Support for New Horizons is ending: Nintendo published Animal Crossing: New Horizons back in 2020, and the game’s life cycle has officially ended. Meaning that the Nintendo Switch exclusive won’t be receiving support.

The last significant update to the Switch game released in November. That leading to 2022 being the final year of New Horizons games.

While Nintendo has announced that it will end DLC support in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Support continues to come out to Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which came out earlier in 2017.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsreceived support for 595 days, whereas Pocket Camp has the backing for 1,528 days.

The last major release for Animal Crossing: New Horizons was launched on 5 November. Offering players different DIY-friendly recipes to make new furniture.

Reception and Revenue for Animal Crossing

Nintendo launched its Happy Home Paradise expansion for Animal Crossing: New Horizons late last year, making it the only addition to the wildly well-known Animal Crossing title.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold more than 34 million copies, making it one of the top-selling Nintendo Switch titles behind only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, surpassing almost 39 million units sold.

To date, Happy Home Paradise has yet to make a million copies. Making the home-furnishing expansion much less popular than the main game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released with the promise of updates to content, adding more features into the gameplay as the year progressed.

Nintendo introduced various new features in Animal Crossing: New Horizons via the 2.0 update. Including Brewster and Kapp’n, or an earlier one that introduced Leif to the plaza on the island.

The new characters were able to have their distinct personalities. Players enjoyed coffee at Café Animal Crossing: New Horizons Museum Cafe and bought plants on their island because of these characters.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp received a significant update just a few hours ago, and there’s no indication of the mobile game’s support waning anytime very soon.

In contrast to the game New Horizons and its single other expansion, Pocket Camp includes microtransactions such as Fortune Cookies and Leaf Tickets.

The game’s mobile Animal Crossing game comes with memberships such as The Happy Helper Plan and The Cookie and Depot Plan, which require an annual subscription fee,

similar to Nintendo Switch Online, which is among the only options Nintendo could continue to earn money from New Horizons. The game didn’t add any new content.

It’s not clear why Nintendo is deciding to cease the support of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, some players suggest it’s because Pocket Camp is far more profitable.

It’s also interesting to note that Apple and Google get 70% of revenues generated by Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp transactions.

The problem is that Pocket Camp‘s response isn’t quite as dazzling as New Horizons‘. As many of its fans tired of how many times the mobile game is begging players to purchase items.

Because of New Horizons‘ huge sales success, which made it the most popular Animal Crossing title so far. Players could get more from the franchise in the coming years.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for download now on Nintendo Switch.
